The upgraded line is due to be completed in October. It will play a key role in both freight and passenger transport on Prague's rail network.

A year ago, work began on the reconstruction of the Branický Bridge and the connecting line to Krč. On Monday, the first freight trains, which currently primarily use this section, returned here.

The first track is now in use. Work on the adjacent track will continue, including the concrete slab and ledges, drainage and waterproofing. This will be followed by modifications to the superstructure, technology and overhead lines.

The Railway Administration plans to complete the entire construction and to re-open in October of this year. The bridge and the connecting section to Krč are an important part of Prague's railway network. It plays an important role in freight traffic, but soon it will also play a much greater role in passenger traffic. The new capacity will also enable the introduction of new urban and suburban lines.

During the planned reconstruction of the Vytoň Bridge, the entire line will also be used to divert trains. It will mainly be used by long-distance trains from Pilsen to Prague's main railway station.

The Branický Bridge is also known as the Bridge of Intelligence. It has served the city's railway traffic since 1964. This autumn, with the inauguration of the double-track operation for which it was originally built, it will celebrate its 50th anniversary.

The total cost of building the bridge is approximately €107,200,000. The project is co-financed by the European Union. It is part of the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF). The national financing will be provided by the State Fund for Transport Infrastructure.
