PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe (PLK) has completed infrastructure works at four stations as part of a broader effort to increase the rail network’s capacity for both civilian and military freight.

Upgrades at Bierzwnik, Brzezinka Średzka, Oława, and Nasielsk were delivered under a PLN 25 million (approx. EUR 5.8 million) investment co-financed by the Polish state and the EU’s Connecting Europe Facility, reports Railmarket’s Polish media partner, Sektor Kolejowy.

The work involved modernisation of front and side loading ramps, improvement of access tracks, and installation of new lighting. The facilities are located across the West Pomeranian, Lower Silesian, and Masovian Voivodeships. According to PKP PLK, the upgraded sites are designed to handle increased volumes of materials such as aggregates, timber, coal, and construction products, as well as supporting military logistics.

This phase is part of the “Works at Loading Points Located on the TEN-T Network” programme, supported by the EU CEF Military Mobility fund and Poland’s Non-Military Defence Preparations initiative. It follows similar modernisations carried out in 2024 at seven stations – including Stargard, Brzeg, and Sochaczew – under a PLN 39 million (approx. EUR 9 million) allocation.

Further work is scheduled for 2026 at two stations in Wrocław: Pracze and Kuźniki. That stage is expected to require around PLN 13.5 million (approx. EUR 3.1 million). In total, 13 locations are included in the current programme.

Between 2017 and 2022, PLK completed related infrastructure upgrades at 31 loading points, with spending exceeding PLN 51.5 million (approx. EUR 11.9 million).
