The initial agreement includes 195 Pro Series battery packs, which will power 15 BEMUs. This collaboration marks ABB's first supply of traction technology to Škoda Group.

ABB has partnered with Škoda Group to deliver traction battery systems for battery-electric multiple units (BEMUs) ordered by České dráhy (Czech Railways).

The Pro Series battery packs, introduced by ABB in September 2024, are tailored for applications in partially electrified railway networks. The modular design enables trains to operate seamlessly across both electrified and non-electrified track sections. Such a solution is suited for networks aiming to increase flexibility without requiring extensive infrastructure electrification.

The agreement also includes a 15-year service commitment, ensuring long-term maintenance support. This deal follows ABB's recent presentation of the Pro Series battery system at InnoTrans 2024 in Berlin.

Škoda Group will integrate ABB’s battery packs into its fleet of BEMUs for České dráhy. These units are part of the railway operator’s efforts to modernize its services while addressing the challenges of rail transport on partially electrified routes.

ABB specializes in electrification and automation solutions, while Škoda Group focuses on producing transport vehicles and components, including trams, trains, and electric buses.
