First phase of testing for CPKC hydrogen locomotive successfully completed

This testing took place on September 4-5, with the bulk train traveling from Sparwood to Golden in Canadian Bristish Columbia.

The CP 1200 high-horsepower hydrogen locomotive from CPKC has completed its initial testing phase, successfully operating alongside a consist of three diesel locomotives and 152 loaded coal wagons.

During the tests, CP 1200, paired with its dedicated fuel tender CP 10001, successfully hauled a fully loaded bulk train to Golden. The following day, the locomotive assisted in returning the empty gondolas to Sparwood, demonstrating its operational capabilities in real-world conditions.

This testing is part of a pilot program in collaboration with Glencore Canada’s Elk Valley Resources. The program comprises three phases designed to assess the reliability and performance of high-horsepower hydrogen locomotives, contributing to advancements in this emerging technology.
