The new trains are part of a larger contract involving 31 units ordered by both the regional government and the regional operator Koleje Śląskie.

The first units of the Impuls 2 electric multiple units (EMUs), built by Newag in Nowy Sącz, ordered for the Silesian Voivodeship have officially entered service following technical acceptance.

A total of 26 units were ordered under the project “Purchase of zero-emission rolling stock,” financed in part through the “European Funds for Silesia” programme. The contract for these units is valued at PLN 959.4 million (approx. EUR 217 million) with EUR 147.5 million financed from EU sources.

Three Impuls 2 units ordered independently by Koleje Śląskie have already been operating on regional lines since February 2025. A further six new trains are scheduled to enter service this year: two in December from the carrier’s direct order and four more from the voivodeship’s order, expected between August and September.

Combined, the total order of 31 trains, including long-term maintenance, reaches a contract value of PLN 1.5 billion, or approximately EUR 339.4 million.

The Impuls 2 trains entering the Silesian network are four-car 31WEbc units designed for a maximum speed of 160 km/h. Each unit offers seating for 192 passengers and total capacity for 400 passengers, including dedicated areas for families, bicycles (up to 10), and passengers with disabilities. Features include multilingual passenger information displays and energy-saving LED lighting.

Once deliveries are complete, Koleje Śląskie's operational fleet will grow by approximately 50%, increasing scheduling flexibility and enabling the replacement of older rolling stock.
