The modernization and electrification of the 18.71-kilometer Vinkovci–Vukovar railway line in Croatia has been completed.

The project, valued at €61 million, was co-financed through European Union funds and included various upgrades to improve the infrastructure and operational capabilities of this segment.

The reconstruction involved the renewal of the existing track to support speeds of up to 120 km/h. Additional work included the modernization of Vukovar–Borovo Naselje and Vukovar railway stations, reconstruction of several stops, and the enhancement of nine railway-road crossings with high-grade signaling and safety equipment. Other crossings were removed or consolidated to streamline operations.

Infrastructure improvements managed by HŽ Infrastruktura also encompassed the installation of telecommunications systems, the deployment of advanced electronic signaling and safety devices, and the construction or refurbishment of railway bridges, including the Bobotski Canal and Vuka bridges. Specific upgrades were made to ensure compliance with energy efficiency requirements, such as constructing facilities for reactive power compensation at the Jankovci traction substation.

The project extends to the broader transport network as the line forms part of the Rhine-Danube Corridor within the Rail Freight Corridor 10 (RFC10). It is expected to contribute to regional connectivity by integrating eastern Slavonia into the European railway system.

This development is anticipated to facilitate smoother freight and passenger operations in the region. The construction work was carried out by the joint venture COMSA and COMSA Instalaciones y Sistemas Industriales, with supervision provided by Rubicon Engineering and SPC Engineering.

The project aligns with ongoing efforts to upgrade railway infrastructure across Croatia, with further plans aimed at expanding the modernization of local and regional railway lines.
