A tragic incident unfolded on November 1, 2024, at the Novi Sad railway station in Serbia, where the collapse of an outdoor roof resulted in 14 fatalities and left three individuals injured.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior Ivica Dačić reported that the structure gave way unexpectedly, causing significant casualties. Rescue teams arrived within minutes of the emergency call, deploying over 80 personnel from various cities. Heavy machinery was utilized from the Interior Ministry, local utilities, and private companies to aid in the operation.
Among the survivors, three people were rescued and hospitalized, including two women who were trapped under the debris but remained in voice contact with responders. The identification process for the victims is currently in progress.
Authorities have announced that a thorough investigation will be conducted to determine the cause of the collapse and establish accountability for the tragedy.
