Alstom’s first Coradia Stream interregional EMUs have arrived in Bulgaria. The contract covers 35 electric Coradia Stream interregional EMUs and 15 years of maintenance.
BULEMU consists of Alstom and Bulgarian company RVP Invest, which will provide the maintenance facility. The fleet is intended for passenger and intercity services with journey times of up to four to five hours.
Each train will have six cars, more than 320 seats, 100% low-floor access, ERTMS Level 2 and a maximum speed of 160 km/h. The trains will also include passenger information systems, luggage racks, sockets, passenger-counting sensors, four controlled-emission toilets, and spaces for bicycles and strollers.
Alstom said the order is its first passenger rolling stock contract in Bulgaria and the country’s first purchase of new electric interregional trains in 20 years. The manufacturer already provides maintenance for BDZ’s passenger fleet and works on railway infrastructure projects in Bulgaria.
