Morocco's long-term transport strategy is to improve connectivity between its northern and southern regions through modern infrastructure.

Morocco's National Railway Authority (ONCF) has announced a $62m public tender to procure 60,000 tonnes of steel rails to build a new high-speed line between Kenitra and Marrakech. According to Spanish media reports, the tender outlines the terms of manufacture, delivery, and payment for the rails.

The materials specified in the call for tenders include 60 E1 profile rails of grade R 260 Mn, which comply with the standards NF EN 13674-1 +A1, version of June 2017. The selected contractor will be responsible for transporting the rails to the port of Casablanca. ONCF will provide the logistics to ensure their delivery to the construction sites at Kenitra and Benguerir.

This new high-speed line is part of Morocco's wider transport strategy to improve links between the northern and southern regions. In addition to constructing the railway track, the project will include the development of stations, maintenance facilities, and the integration of the line with existing infrastructure.

The line is expected to link the Kenitra maintenance base with areas to the north of Rabat, passing through Aïn Atiq and Zenata, and eventually connecting with Marrakech via the Nouaceur region of Casablanca.
