Austrian rail systems specialist PJM has opened a Swiss subsidiary, strengthening its local presence in rail vehicle engineering, testing and certification.

PJM, the Austrian rail systems specialist, has established a new subsidiary in Switzerland, expanding its footprint in one of Europe’s most technically demanding rail markets.

The new company, PJM Swiss, is based in Thalwil and will serve as the local contact point for the group’s full range of services, spanning rail vehicle development, engineering, testing, certification and approval support.

PJM says the Swiss subsidiary will offer customers access to the group’s wider portfolio, including requirements management, certification management, component design, accredited testing and conformity assessment. The company positions the new office as a way to provide more direct support to the Swiss market while maintaining access to the broader capabilities of the group.

The Thalwil-based operation will be led by Martin Benkler and Lorenz Kochan, who together bring several decades of experience in the rail sector.

For Switzerland, where rail vehicle projects often involve strict technical standards and cross-border interoperability requirements, the arrival of a specialised engineering and certification player may be relevant not only for vehicle manufacturers, but also for operators and suppliers involved in approval-intensive projects.
