CAF began construction of a new railway depot in Neubeckum on 3 March 2026, following a groundbreaking ceremony at the site. The facility will maintain battery-electric multiple units for the Westphalian RB 68 (future S 8, Münster–Sendenhorst) and RB 76 (Harsewinkel–Gütersloh–Verl) lines, which are being reactivated under the Northern Westphalia network.
CAF received the building permit from the Münster district government in July 2025, completing the planning approval process and enabling preparatory works.
The depot will be built on a 13,000 m² rail-designated site acquired from the Westphalian State Railway (WLE) in 2024. Plans include a double-track workshop hall with one maintenance track and one measuring track, an external washing facility for multiple units, storage areas and administrative and social facilities.
An electrified track layout will provide stabling space under overhead lines, allowing battery-electric multiple units to be charged and handed over between operations and maintenance staff. The site connects to the Beckum-Neubeckum DB station via WLE infrastructure on the Hamm–Minden and Münster–Warstein lines.
The Neubeckum depot is intended to complement CAF’s new maintenance facility in Gelsenkirchen-Bismarck. The Westphalia-Lippe public transport authority (NWL) plans to deploy the CAF-built BEMUs on the reactivated Münster–Sendenhorst and Harsewinkel–Verl routes, for which planning approval was granted in February 2026.
