This means that LTG Cargo's intermodal services will be extended by two routes: Kaunas-Lodz and Lodz-Duisburg.
"As logistics changes, there is an increasing need to combine different modes of transport to make the most of their advantages. Intermodal transport, where semi-trailers or containers are transported by rail for long distances and by road for the last mile, solves the problems of driver shortage, road wear, road safety and air pollution," says Eglė Šimė, CEO of LTG Cargo.
According to her, LTG Cargo will carry out several test runs before launching regular services with a stopover in Lodz, and the new Kaunas-Lodz and Lodz-Duisburg routes could be launched as early as the beginning of the summer in June.
The new Kaunas-Lodz and Lodz-Duisburg routes could be launched as early as the summer of this year. In addition, LTG Cargo is expected to offer in Lodz the first and lastmile services that are already offered from the terminals in Kaunas and Duisburg.
In 2022, LTG Cargo will start transporting cargo on the Kaunas-Duisburg intermodal route after the Kaunas Intermodal Terminal in Palemonas is connected to the European (1435 mm) railway. The intermodal train, which can carry 36 semi-trailers or containers, currently runs three times a week to and from Duisburg.
