Starting on 8 October 2024, the service will run three times a week, linking Western Europe with Romania, the Balkans, and Turkey.

CFL multimodal has announced the launch of its new intermodal connection between the intermodal terminal of Bettembourg-Dudelange (LU) and the Railport Arad in Curtici (RO). For this project, CFL multimodal collaborates with CFL cargo and Ecco Rail for the rail traction.

The first train will depart on 8 October 2024, providing three weekly trains from Bettembourg-Dudelange to Curtici. This new connection will meet the need to link Western Europe with Romania in particular, and the Balkans and Turkey in general. The increase in the number of shippers with production facilities in Romania, as well as the daily congestion on the Hungarian-Romanian border, have had a major impact on the creation of this new connection.

This train will have a capacity of 40 slots. The slots are suitable for craneable and non-craneable containers and trailers. Both terminals will operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week and act as gateway hubs to other European countries, such as France, Belgium, Germany and Spain via Bettembourg and Turkey via Curtici. As a result of this transport solution, a reduction in CO2 emissions of around 22,000 tonnes in comparison to road transport can be expected.

“We see this opportunity not just as a simple link between Bettembourg-Dudelange and Curtici, but also as a more ambitious project linking Romania and the BENELUX countries, as well as Turkey and the Balkans, to Western Europe. We are excited to expand our customer portfolio and support the EU's ambitions to shift freight from road to rail.”, highlighted Sven Löffler, Chief Commercial.
