Siemens Mobility has signed an agreement to acquire several key businesses of Italy’s MERMEC Group, a rail technology company active in signalling, diagnostics, measurement technologies and infrastructure inspection.
The transaction will expand Siemens Mobility’s portfolio in rail diagnostics and asset intelligence, while also strengthening its signalling activities and industrial footprint in Italy. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, and closing is expected by the end of 2026, subject to customary conditions.
The acquisition covers MERMEC’s key businesses in Italian wayside signalling, electrification, telecommunication, diagnostics, analytics and worldwide data infrastructure. It does not include MERMEC’s investments in Angelstar, Mont Saint Michel with Compagnie des Signaux, or MERMEC Deutschland.
The businesses included in the transaction employ around 1,700 people, serve customers in more than 70 countries and generated revenue of approximately €430 million in the 2025 financial year.
For Siemens Mobility, one of the main gains is MERMEC’s portfolio of diagnostic vehicles, measurement systems and software used for railway infrastructure inspection. Siemens says the combination with its own onboard and depot-based diagnostics capabilities will create a broader diagnostics and analytics platform.
The deal also has an Italian industrial dimension. MERMEC’s sites and capabilities will become part of Siemens Mobility’s global network, including the Ferrosud site in Matera, which Siemens expects to develop as a hub for next-generation diagnostics.
