Trenitalia France is adding a third high-speed route to its domestic network with the launch of direct Paris–Marseille services mid-June 2025.
Daily operations and travel times
Travel time between Paris Gare de Lyon and Marseille Saint-Charles is approximately 3 hours and 30 minutes. First departures from Paris are planned as early as 05:52, with the last train departing at 19:03. In the reverse direction, the earliest departure from Marseille is scheduled at 06:52, with the final train at 18:49. Trains also stop in Lyon (Saint-Exupéry), Avignon, and Aix-en-Provence, increasing regional connectivity across southeastern France.
Tariff policy and conditions
Tickets are offered from €27 one-way in Standard class. Prices vary depending on availability. Trenitalia France applies a flexible pricing model across its network, similar to its Paris–Lyon and Paris–Milan services. All tickets are fully exchangeable without limit or fee, subject to any fare differences. Refunds are permitted until departure with a 20% cancellation fee.
Context of launch and wider network development
The Paris–Marseille route is Trenitalia's latest move in the French domestic high-speed market. The operator began services in France in December 2021, first focusing on international trains to Milan, then extending domestic options on the Paris–Lyon corridor. Following a landslide in the Maurienne valley in August 2023 and a subsequent 19-month suspension, the Paris–Milan route was reinstated in April 2025 via Lyon Part-Dieu, Chambéry, and Modane.
The Marseille expansion follows service patterns established on the Paris–Lyon axis, where Trenitalia reports having observed a 40% increase in passenger volume in 2024. It also indicates further application of time-spread scheduling, with existing trains on that corridor operating between 06:30 and 20:00.
Company background
Trenitalia, a subsidiary of Ferrovie dello Stato Italiane, operates around 10,000 trains daily across five European countries. The Frecciarossa brand has been active for over a decade in Italy, and since 2021, in France. In late 2022, Trenitalia also began high-speed operations in Spain.
