Saudi Arabia plans to expand its railway network by more than 50 percent as part of a nationwide effort to boost the role of rail in passenger and freight transport. The large-scale railway transformation is a key element of the government’s Vision 2030 strategy, which seeks to diversify the Saudi economy and modernise critical infrastructure. Rail is expected to play a growing role in connecting industrial zones, ports, and emerging urban centres, improving both domestic mobility and international logistics links. The expansion will also support sustainable transport goals by reducing road congestion and emissions.
During the Saudi International Rail 2025 exhibition in Riyadh, Siemens Mobility showcased several technologies designed to enhance efficiency and safety in the country’s rail operations. Among them were the Velaro Novo high-speed platform, the Railigent X asset management system, Automatic Train Operation (ATO) over ETCS, and the Signaling X platform integrated into the Siemens Xcelerator digital ecosystem. These technologies aim to enable smarter maintenance, improved energy efficiency, and seamless train control across the expanding network.
As part of its long-term commitment to the Saudi market, Siemens Mobility also announced the expansion of its Riyadh office to strengthen local partnerships and engineering expertise.
