As of Sunday, September 15, severe weather continues to affect the railway network across Central Europe. Here is an update from Poland.

Current impact on operations

By 16:00 on Sunday, 15 September 2024, PKP PLK reported 76 weather-related incidents affecting railway lines.

Key disruptions

  • Border crossings at Chałupki – Bohumin and Zebrzydowice – Petrowice are impassable.
  • Kłodzko Główne, Głuchołazy, and Chałupki stations are also impassable.
  • There are ongoing changes on the Jelenia Góra – Szklarska Poręba, Jelenia Góra – Lubań Śląski, and Kamienna Góra – Lubawka lines.
  • A break in traffic has been reported on the Nysa - Brzeg railway line due to fallen trees on the traction network.

63 passenger trains have been canceled on entire routes, with an additional 150 trains canceled on part of their routes.

Emergency response

  • PKP PLK is maintaining 18 railway technical rescue teams and 171 emergency fault removal teams.
  • 66 network trains are on standby for technical protection of railway lines.
  • Two diesel locomotives are available for line protection.
  • Regional crisis management teams are active in Kraków, Sosnowiec, Wrocław, and Poznań.

Communication and passenger Information

  • Due to continuous rainfall, changes in communication and train schedules are frequent, with data being updated on the passenger portal.
  • Train service information is provided by individual carriers.
  • At stations where possible, travelers are provided with water.

Earlier events

  • Since September 14, the sections Piechowice - Szklarska Poręba, Jelenia Góra - Rybnica, and Jelenia Góra Zachodnia - Jelenia Góra Sobieszów (Lower Silesian Voivodeship) have been closed.
  • Additional closures include Prudnik - Nowy Świętów, Łambinowice - Nysa, and the Głuchołazy station (Opole Voivodeship).

Due to expected flood wave to continue from Czechia towards Poland, more rail line disruptions are expected during the week.
