Logistik Service (LogServ), a logistics subsidiary of voestalpine, continues to use the MOBILER system in collaboration with ÖBB Rail Cargo Group for transporting bulk goods between Austria and Germany.
Under this logistics concept, steel mill dust is loaded into MOBILER containers at voestalpine's facility in Linz using an automated filling system equipped with integrated weighing technology. Once loaded and weighed, the containers are transferred to rail wagons for onward transport by RCG. Single-wagon transport services and the Linz–Duisburg–Wels TransFER route are used to move the material to disposal sites in Germany.
Empty containers are then redirected to Fürstenwalde, where they are filled with plastic granulate. The granulate is transported back to Linz to be used as a substitute for coal or coke in the blast furnace process. Annual volumes amount to approximately 70,000 tonnes of steel mill dust and 25,000 tonnes of plastic granulate.
While voestalpine has its own sidings, the process intentionally uses truck segments to allow more flexible operations. LogServ provides the pre-carriage using MOBILER trucks, and RCG handles traction and wagon provision across the cross-border sections.
The MOBILER system continues to be applied as a logistics interface for bulk transport between rail and road, especially where direct rail access is limited or not used by design.
