The company Electroputere VFU Pașcani, part of the GRAMPET Group, has started the testing of the first wagon modernised with funds obtained through contracts financed by PNRR. The wagon is undergoing road tests at the Romanian Railways' Făurei Test Centre, while the wagon's body structure has already undergone static tests.
In 2023, the Pașcani plant won two tenders and signed two contracts with SNTFC CFR Călători SA to modernize 42 passenger coaches, financed by the PNRR. The total value of these contracts is more than 66 million euros.
"The railway industry is vital for the economy. Rail transport is more sustainable than other modes of transport and the Romanian state must support the development of this strategic industry for the country. The wagon currently being tested is just the first of many, and we hope to be involved in many such projects in the future, contributing to the development and modernization of the entire passenger wagon fleet in Romania," said Gruia Stoica, President of GRAMPET Group.
These are the most complex modernization projects of passenger coaches carried out by Electroputere VFU Pașcani. The coaches comply with the Technical Specifications for Interoperability and will be CE certified after the tests are complete,
The deadline for the modernization of all 42 of the wagons is June 2026. In addition to the modernization of the trains, the contracts also include preventive and corrective maintenance services for nine years after the modernization. The 42 wagons will operate on railways in Romania, Austria and Hungary.
