The deliveries support works to replace the protective liner over the southern section of the site’s legacy waste disposal trenches.

Direct Rail Services has started a third phase of rail-borne aggregate deliveries to the Repository site as part of the Southern Trench Interim Membrane (STIM) project.

The operator plans to run around 200 trains to the site by September 2026, transporting more than 175,000 tonnes of aggregate. The material is required for construction activities linked to the renewal of the liner system at the Repository.
