On 6 May 2024, it will be 30 years since the opening of the Eurotunnel and the start of regular rail shuttle service connecting the United Kingdom and France by an underwater tunnel through the Short Strait. Getlink, a Paris-based company managing operations and traffic, has decided to change the name of the Eurotunnel Le Shuttle service.
The name (and the logo) has changed to just LeShuttle a year before the anniversary. The new logo should represent the values of the service - simplicity, speed and care. A one-minute commercial was revealed today on YouTube that will soon appear on TV stations and cinemas in France and the UK:
Getlink has the concession to operate the Channel Tunnel infrastructure until 2086, and it does so via its subsidiary Eurotunnel. Its shuttle trains cover the distance of 50 km between French Calais and British Folkestone in 35 minutes (a third of the time needed by ferries), carrying both trucks and passenger cars. Since 1994, over 481 million people used the Channel Tunnel transfer. In 2022 alone, LeShuttle moved over 2.1 million passenger cars and more than 1.4 million trucks, which is a 25% share in trade between the UK and the rest of the European continent
