Renfe Viajeros, the passenger transport division of Renfe Group, has reported a 13.5% increase in gross operating profit (EBITDA) for the first eight months of 2024, reaching €207 million. This represents a notable rise from €182.3 million during the same period in 2023.
Renfe has outlined 46 commercial initiatives, 33 of which have already been implemented, contributing to an increase in EBITDA of €12.7 million thus far. Renfe expects the plan to generate an additional €27.8 million in profit for the 2024 financial year.
Alongside this, Renfe Viajeros’ revenues have grown by 3%, amounting to €2.464 billion between January and August, up from €2.393 billion in the same period last year. The company attributes these gains to its efficiency measures and market adaptations, despite the challenges posed by the liberalized rail market and price competition.
Losses in the Renfe Viajeros division have also been reduced by 18.6%, with a decrease from €41.5 million in August 2023 to €33.7 million as of the latest reporting period. The plan remains under constant review, with Renfe’s internal team conducting monthly evaluations to ensure that progress aligns with set targets.
So far, the program has achieved 46% of its annual target, with more actions to come as part of its broader strategy.
