The agreement between Serbia and CRRC covers the procurement of nine new electric multiple units (EMUs) capable of speeds up to 120 km/h, with delivery expected by the end of 2026.
The EMUs will primarily serve the newly constructed railway line from Zemun Polje to Nikola Tesla Airport and the National Stadium. This route aims to improve the connectivity between Belgrade's city center and its surrounding neighborhoods, supporting the specialized EXPO 2027 exhibition. This expansion is planned to extend further to Obrenovac, integrating it into Belgrade's urban rail network for the first time.
These trains, manufactured in CRRC's facilities in China, will meet all European Union standards, reflecting Serbia's commitment to aligning with European public transport norms.
In October 2023, Serbia signed an agreement for five units for the newly-build connection to Hungary.
