This event signals a shift in the region’s logistics landscape, placing rail transport at the forefront of development.
The African Rail Company (ARC) has played a central role in this initiative, managing the fuel delivery through an integrated rail-to-road transhipment process. This effort was executed in collaboration with CFM Portos e Caminhos de Ferro de Moçambique and other partners, adapting intermodal solutions previously developed for operations in Zimbabwe and Botswana to suit the requirements of Malawi and Mozambique.
The rail delivery was facilitated by partnerships involving the National Oil Company of Malawi (NOCMA) and reliable locomotive support from Traxtion. The successful operation not only demonstrates the feasibility of rail as a key logistics solution in the region but also aligns with President Lazarus McCarthy Chakwera’s emphasis on revitalizing rail transport.
The delivery sets the stage for further rail-based logistics solutions in the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region, marking a notable step toward enhancing regional connectivity and transport efficiency.
